Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation
Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation
The Foundation
The Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation, with its collection of modern and contemporary photography as well as the Karl Blossfeldt and Albert Renger-Patzsch archives, has been permanently affiliated with the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen since 2010 and complements the Photography and New Media Collection at the Pinakothek der Moderne in an outstanding way.
The purpose of the Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation is to present the foundation's holdings to the public in exhibitions and publications and to provide new perspectives on photography as a means of artistic expression - historically and in contemporary art - in the context of the collections at the Pinakothek der Moderne.
In addition to special exhibitions, such as the most recent "Albert Renger-Patzsch. Early Books" (2022) and "Friedrich Seidenstücker. Life in the City" (2023), the Foundation's holdings will be continuously shown in thematic and monographic presentations in a room within the Modern Art Collection circuit of the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlung in the Pinakothek der Moderne. Furthermore, works from the Foundation's holdings are loaned to national and international exhibitions.
The collection and archives as well as the specialist library of the Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation are open to the public. They can be consulted by appointment and used for research purposes, publications and exhibition projects.
The Collection
The heart of the Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation is a high-calibre photographic collection with a focus on avant-garde photography of the 1920s and 1930s. It includes extensive groups of works by Aenne Biermann, Alfred Ehrhardt, Florence Henri, Germaine Krull, Werner Rohde, August Sander and Friedrich Seidenstücker, among others. In addition, the collection contains convolutions of international photography from the 1940s to the present, such as by Bernd and Hilla Becher, Lee Friedlander, Ralph Gibson, David Hockney, Jürgen Klauke, Duane Michals, Gabriele and Helmut Nothhelfer, Tony Ray-Jones, Marcia Resnick and Weegee.
In addition to several thousand original prints (vintage prints), the collection also houses new prints and portfolios that were created in the context of Ann and Jürgen Wilde's gallery and exhibition activities, as well as archival materials and documents on the history of photography, an extensive specialist library and the archive of the Wilde Gallery.
The archives of the two important photographers of New Objectivity, Karl Blossfeldt and Albert Renger-Patzsch, also form a central part of the Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation.
