Moritz von Schwind
The Honeymoon, um 1850/52
Öl auf Sperrholz, 53,6 x 42,2 cm
1869 durch Adolf Friedrich Graf von Schack erworben
Inv. Nr. 11577
In this painting Schwind recalled his own honeymoon, in 1842, depicting himself as the traveller standing by the coach. It is a particularly fine example of what the artist called his `travel pictures¿. He saw these forty-odd paintings as `a unified whole¿, despite their varying subjects and formats. Schack acquired the greater part of them for his collection.
