Pasture with Sleeping Woman
The imposing figures that are embedded in the natural surroundings of an Arcadian countryside are typical for the artist Jan Siberechts. Here, the natural, casual poses of those depicted convey the drowsy feeling of a warm summer's day. The shepherdess sleeps with her arm behind her neck and the young girl comfortably lies on her side with her legs drawn up. Also characteristic is the refined use of light with carefully placed accents that highlight the shimmering brass vessels, and that also create the impression of dancing sunlight reflecting on the field.
