Ground floor Gallery XIII

Early German Painting - Hans Burgkmair, Lucas Cranach the Elder, Hans Pleydenwurff

Winged altarpieces by Hans Burgkmair from 1518 and 1519 line the walls. The room is dominated by the portrait of the rich Augsburg merchant Konrad Rehlinger and his eight children, which was painted by Bernhard Strigel in 1517 as the first German bourgeois full-figure portrait. The Hof Altar by Hans Pleydenwurff affords the opportunity to appreciate the artistic environment in which Albrecht Dürer grew up. This gallery also features paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder.
