Works of early Romanticism for guitar and forte piano
The works for guitar and forte piano played in the Kopiensaal of Sammlung Schack correspond to performance tradition and sound expectations of the early 19th century: constructional innovations for the Viennese guitar makers - immediate adjustion of the action, wedge-shaped body and elevated fingerboard are still used today - caused an extraordinary singability and sound level, especially for the guitars built by the Anton Staufer manufacture. The guitar found entrance into chamber music and appeared to be an instrument perfectly made for the bourgeois salon.
Concerning the keyboard instruments, the cembalo was already replaced by the forte piano at that time. During the concert a replica which was built by J.L. Dulcken in Amsterdam in 1815 will be played. In Beethoven's, Carulli's and Moscheles/Giuliani's works the keyboard instrument has both accompanying and concertante functions. Thus, the different tonal possibilities of both string instruments can be shown in various ways. College students of Prof. Franz Halász' guitar class and Prof. Christine Schornsheim's cembalo and forte piano class will play the music.
A concert series in cooperation with the conservatory for music and theatre in Munich (Hochschule für Musik und Theater München).
