Pinakothek der Moderne
Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München
A joint exhibition by the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung and the Sammlung Moderne Kunst.
Focussing on concise groups of works, this exhibition strives to illustrate the relationship between the media of sculpture and drawing by taking an exemplary selection of works largely by American artists from the sixties and seventies. The subtle dialogue between the conceptual notion of `disegno¿ and a sensual transformation into material form as a sculpture, will form the centre of attention.
The emphasis in this private collection, presented here for the first time, is on important early groups of works on paper and one or two sculptures by Robert Grosvenor, Donald Judd, Barry Le Va, Sol LeWitt, Gordon Matta-Clark, Fred Sandback, James Turrell and, more extensive groups of drawings by Dan Flavin and Mel Bochner, as well as drawings and one sculpture in each case by Carl Andre, Charlotte Posenenske, Robert Smithson, Richard Tuttle, and further drawings by Jennifer Bartlett, Alighiero Boetti, Bill Bollinger, Jan Dibbets, Michael Heizer, Robert Mangold, Walter de Maria, Agnes Martin, Gerhard Richter, Bridget Riley, Robert Ryman, Alan Saret and Anne Truitt.
Additional works by the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung and the Sammlung Moderne Kunst are displayed.
