Born c.1460 in Oudewater (Holland) and probably trained in Haarlem. From 1484 David's presence is documented in Bruges, where he spent most of his life. After the death of Hans Memling he was the leading master of the city, and painted a whole series of important public commissions there. He died in Bruges in 1523.
