(Fra Giovanni da Fiesole) Florentine painter, born between 1386 and 1400 in Vicchio in the Mugello. Before he entered the Dominican monastery in Fiesole, (this is said to have been as early as 1407), he bore the name of Guido di Pietro. Later he was also called Beato Angelico, although he was actually only recently beatified. Active in Florence, Cortona, Orvieto and Rome. Died in 1455 in Rome, where he was buried in Santa Maria sopra Minerva.
